Washington’s Story
Church on the Way.
St. Georges Presbyterian Church Bluff, Durban, South Africa.
Washington is a young man in our congregation who has been called to
touch Mozambique as a missionary. He has been to Mozambique on a few
of occasions.
Washington was interviewed by Linda Milln on Saturday 26 March 2005
on the Bluff.
Linda: So where have you been reaching out to over these past years?
Mpelane, this is a church group I planted awhile back.
Mpelane, this is a church group I planted awhile back.
Linda: How did this church group come about?
Washington: I met this lady Thula and recognised her as a leader and I
led her to Christ. At the time she was not saved. The nice thing about
Thula is that she can speak Zulu and she is a great translator and
therefore many people can be reached with the Gospel in Mozambique.
Linda: So how do you go about you ministry?
Washington: I have given Thula a lot of training and we do a lot of door to
door evangelism to reach people with the Gospel.
Linda: I heard Washington, that there are a few stumbling blocks, can you
tell me something about them?
Washington: Yes, I do not have sufficient funding to keep going to the
church I planted and to the other churches in Maputo that I feel God
wants me to train and equip.
The people in Mozambique are very poor and so I have to have my own
funds to sustain myself.
Linda: Washington, Have you considered supplementing your income in
some way to help you to do your ministry, just like the apostle Paul was a
tentmaker and at times he had to use his own resources?
Washington: Yes, I have and I have considered selling shoes but
obviously to succeed I have to find a viable market for them.
It is very important that my work is not “hit and run”. I have a responsibility
to keep building the church congregation in Mpelane, and so thus I have
to keep visiting them and training them.
Linda: Thank you for talking to me Washington.
It’s good to be able to communicate to others what is happening in your
ministry.
