BLUFF ENVIRO TEAM FORMED
BET was born out of the concern that our
environment is being invaded and abused and no
one seems to care. Our goal is to create a forum
where people who wish to be involved, can work
together for a cleaner, more beautiful Bluff!
BET met recently to look at the challenges, and
decided on the following strategy:
1) To create public awareness of our cause
through the media and in particular, the Southlands
Sun.
2) To expose people that we believe are
disrespectful of the environment with regards to
litter, cutting down trees, carrying out unsustainable
activities  etc, and give credit to those who are
making  the effort. We feel that ignoring abuse
sends a message to the community that this
behaviour is OK when it is NOT.
3)  To network with existing businesses, schools,
clubs & associations e.g. the Isi’bubulungu Coast
Accommodation Association, Durban Tourism &
WESSA.
4)   To continue challenging the Ethekweni
Municipality, SAP & other authorities to take action
at all levels since according to the by laws, littering
is a punishable offence.
5)   To EDUCATE at grass root level by encouraging
schools to take an active role.
6)   To organise regular community clean ups,
whereby the public can become involved.
If you share our vision you need to make some
sort of contribution and get involved to make this
project a success and ensure our Bluff
environment is maintained at the highest
standards possible.

BLUFF ENVIRO TEAM
SAPREF PIPELINE REPLACEMENT PROJECT –
ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION

At a recent meeting of the Bluff Enviro Team the
ongoing SAPREF Project was discussed and the
following points were noted
•        The Bluff road network has been disrupted  by
the pipeline projects for years with constant
deviations bumpy temporary detours and poor
signage, roads littered with trashed hazard
equipment, sandbags, pipes, broken equipment
etc.
•        Residents and Businesses have been
inconvenienced with the Bluff environment has
been severely disrupted.
•        Roads are constantly being dug up refilled
and patched. As the roads are patched so they are
once again dug up and repatched.
•        Repairs are often left incomplete for weeks
causing dangerous road surfaces and resultant
damage to residents and visitors vehicles
•        Road signs have been removed and not
replaced or if re-erected they are skew and
damaged!
•        The project team leave pipes and debris all
over the pavements causing the Bluff Environment
damage, to look a mess and the safety risk levels
to be increased.
•        Trees have been cut, vegetation removed
leaving a baron landscape. Our claim
Environmental Degradation!
•        Weeks after the pipeline trenches have been
backfilled and roads patched the plants, grassed
areas, driveways etc remain unfinished.
•        Remaining adjacent road surfaces have been
damaged by subsidence causing cracks in the
roads with the ingress of water which will ultimately
lead to the roads accelerated deterioration. Our
claim Environmental Degradation!
•        Adjacent road surfaces have been damaged
with scratches and gouges from heavy equipment
used on the project. The roads look a mess.  Our
claim Environmental Degradation!

The Bluff Enviro Team believe the Bluff Community
is being abused by SAPREF and its Contractors
and it is time for the Bluff Community to demand
compensation for the abuse it has suffered.

If you share our vision you need to make some
sort of contribution and get involved to make this
project a success and ensure our Bluff
environment is maintained at the highest
standards possible contact us by e-mail and let
us have your story!
